Berlin-based artist Solarrio returns with his highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘Toxicology’, a funk-laced, emotionally charged exploration of love, addiction, and the darker sides of human connection, premiering here at Music Crowns.
Anchored by the haunting premise “Love is dead — this album is the toxicology report,” the record turns introspection into something both hypnotic and danceable, blending synthpop, funk, and hip-hop with cinematic precision.
Following the acclaim of his 2024 debut All the Wrong Places, Solarrio pushes his artistry into bolder, more reflective territory. “This album is about accountability,” he explains. “It’s me dissecting my own toxicity and the ways it’s shaped my life — but still keeping it funky.”
That tension between self-awareness and groove permeates every track, from the hypnotic lead single ‘Under My Spell’ to deeper cuts that grapple with obsession, desire, and the seductive pull of self-destruction.
‘Under My Spell’, co-produced with Alhassan Sakho, encapsulates the album’s duality: alluring yet dangerous, intoxicating yet unsettling. Written from the perspective of the substance, or fame itself, the track is a meditation on dependency and seduction, perfectly capturing Solarrio’s knack for turning personal chaos into captivating soundscapes.
With ‘Toxicology’, Solarrio cements himself as one of modern funk-pop’s most forward-thinking voices. His ability to balance groove with introspection, allure with danger, and vulnerability with style makes this album a mesmerising step forward, a record that lingers long after the final note fades.
