Oliver Pinder’s cathartic urgency appears on ‘Such An Angel’

Oliver Pinder is striking out on a new era with his latest single, ‘Such An Angel’. With big guitars, infectious indie melodies and a reflective, lamenting chorus, it’s a restless delivery but sharp and punchy nonetheless.

Setting the scene in the first verse with a driving guitar rhythm, a tight backbeat and the lead vocal, the track grows before exploding into colour. More layers enter the melting pot: catchy vocalisations, the roar of overdrive, graceful arpeggios and a strong bass. The dynamic is such that pulling back in the verses for a more conversational tone makes for an all the more anthemic moment each time the chorus arises.

Oliver explains, “The song came together really quickly and playfully, and I wanted to keep that feeling all the way through the recording. It feels very band-led and communal, like a shared release rather than a private thought. It looks at what it feels like to slowly realise someone you admired is actually emotionally self-centred, the moment where admiration turns into clarity, and the complicated grief that comes with letting go of that illusion”

It’s no surprise that Oliver is sounding at his most assured to date. It’s the first release following his second EP, too late to tell you, released on vinyl and celebrated with a massive UK tour. He’s appearing on the annual compilation from Blood Records & This Feeling, in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, performed at major UK rising star festivals and been supported by tastemaker radio. With an album on the horizon for 2027, and a new EP before then, this is a rising star to keep an eye on.
