Music Crowns is proud to premiere “On My Shoulder,” the powerful new single from rising singer-songwriter Mary Milton. Blending raw emotion with cinematic production, the track marks a defining moment in her artistic evolution.
With the vocal power of Jessie J, the sonic depth of Adele, the soulful stylings of H.E.R., and anthemic earworms reminiscent of Emeli Sandé, Milton delivers a performance that is both intimate and soaring. “On My Shoulder” is written in memory of her father, who passed away last year, and stands as a deeply personal tribute shaped by grief, love, and remembrance.
Emerging from a period of profound loss, the song became a vital creative outlet. Through heartfelt lyricism and a commanding vocal presence, Milton transforms absence into something quietly luminous. The result is a track that not only documents her own healing process but also offers solace to listeners navigating similar experiences.
Sonically, “On My Shoulder” expands far beyond a traditional ballad. Its rich, layered arrangement features the Czech National Symphony Orchestra alongside a full choir and a close-knit group of collaborators. Together, they create a sweeping, cinematic soundscape that merges orchestral grandeur with contemporary soul and pop. The track sits comfortably in the lineage of vocal greats like Whitney Houston and Céline Dion, artists whose influence can be felt in both its emotional intensity and technical precision.
Originally from Cannes and born in Évreux, Mary Milton first gained national recognition during the 2022 season of The Voice, where she reached the semi-finals as part of Amel Bent’s team. Since then, she has continued to build momentum across the French and international music scenes, collaborating with artists such as Black M, Youssoupha, and Franglish, as well as opening for Matt Pokora. Her growing international presence includes work alongside Cynthia Erivo, with connections to projects linked to the series Emily in Paris.
In 2024, Milton released her debut EP What About Love, a project that explored the many dimensions of love through a blend of soul, R&B, and pop. With “On My Shoulder,” she ventures into more introspective territory, revealing new layers of vulnerability and depth in her songwriting.
Now based in Paris, Mary Milton continues to carve out a distinct artistic identity rooted in authenticity and emotional connection. “On My Shoulder” is not just a song, it’s a statement of resilience, and a poignant reminder of music’s power to transform pain into something enduring and beautiful.
