Icelandic pop duo VÆB step confidently into their breakout era with the release of their buoyant new single “Gimme More,” arriving alongside their debut album ‘VÆBOUT’ on April 17. The dual release marks a pivotal moment for the brothers, crystallizing their transition from viral Eurovision standouts to a fast-rising force in global pop.
The duo’s ascent has been swift but far from fleeting. Their 2025 breakthrough “RÓA”, an arena-ready anthem rooted in resilience, dominated Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin before making a significant impact at the Eurovision Song ContestGrand Final. Its commercial performance reinforced that momentum, becoming one of the most successful Icelandic Eurovision entries to date, trailing only Daði Freyr’s “Think About Things.” On the night of the final, it also emerged as the most Shazamed track, a telling indicator of VÆB’s immediate global resonance.
That digital buzz has translated seamlessly into real-world demand. Their recent UK and European headline run, ‘The Boat Tour,’ saw sold-out venues and a rapidly mobilising fanbase, many embracing the duo’s silver-toned, animated aesthetic, a visual identity that feels as integral to their appeal as the music itself.
Comprised of brothers Matthias David Matthiasson and Halfdan Helgi Matthiasson, VÆB (pronounced “vibe”) lean into a hybrid of glossy pop instincts, tongue-in-cheek Gen Z humor, and emotionally tuned songwriting. Their musical chemistry, shaped early through trumpet, drums, and shared vocal interplay, underpins a sound that comfortably shifts between sincerity and spectacle.
“Gimme More” captures that balance in full. What began as a parody of early-2000s boyband tropes evolves into a kinetic, electro-swing-tinged pop cut, retooled with sharp production and an irreverent edge. Guided by producer Ingi Bauer, the track plays like a mission statement: playful, unpredictable, and engineered for repeat listens.
The single follows “Þetta reddast” and “GAMERBOI,” both of which have helped build anticipation for ‘VÆBOUT’, while “RÓA” continues to rack up streams and maintain a strong cross-platform presence.
Beyond the charts, VÆB are extending their reach into gaming culture, a natural fit for their digital-forward identity. Their recent collaboration with Honkai: Star Rail, including vocals on the HOYO-MiX-produced “Side Quest King,” signals a broader creative footprint that stretches well beyond traditional pop lanes.
With a European tour slated for later this year, including a major London headline date, VÆB are positioning ‘VÆBOUT’ not just as an introduction, but as a statement. It’s a debut that thrives on contrast: polished yet chaotic, heartfelt yet self-aware. And in a crowded pop landscape, that duality might be exactly what sets them apart.
