Milan-born and London-based Nico Cann is sharing the anthemic new track ‘Take Me To The River’. Set to tour with The Rifles across the UK in the wake of the track’s release, he’ll also be performing at Alt Escape and The Dublin Castle in Camden.
The raw emotions of the heartland rock sound ring out with big guitars, momentous drums, a choir of vocal harmonies and, ultimately, a lead vocal that begs to be fired out from the stage. The soaring songwriting is cinematic, flashes of Springsteen or Fender from this, only his fourth single release since his debut. Powerful, rich and dynamic even amongst its older influences, it’s refreshing to hear it from a rising star.
Nico shares, “I began writing ‘Take Me to the River’ three years ago. The song went through multiple iterations and changes, especially lyrically. Like many of the other songs I’m writing for my debut project, Silver Lining, this one analyses a moment of feeling lost, or better, the limbo of uncertainty right after a breakup. “Should I call her, should I find my way?”
The song was conceived as a dialogue between myself and a taxi driver. I’m asking him to literally take me to the river, the river Thames, because I see the river as a place of meditation, somewhere I could seek answers and reflect upon my choices, the past, and the future.”
Building towards a debut album, Silver Lining, written, performed and produced largely solo, ‘Take Me To The River’ is a statement of what’s to come, and an exciting one at that.
