Atmospheric, shimmering, and carefully crafted, ‘St Brendan’ is the glorious new single from London-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Re Teu. His second offering of the year, this single is the appetizer for the upcoming EP, Voyages, which will be released later this year after a brief hiatus since 2023. Re Teu’s re-emergence has been a welcome calm, with his captivating and unique deep vocal lines poking through warm, all-consuming production. Layered melody lines and gentle piano licks wrap around a reassuringly constant picked-guitar motif, while Re Teu recounts a tale of lost love due to circumstances.
In Emric’s own words, he explains, “I wrote this song in 2017 about leaving someone you love because of time and place. It was then brought back to life in 2024 after feeling comfortable enough to share the story. A story of letting go of something you want for the good of all involved, St.Brendan is titled after the saint of the seas to watch over people making a voyage across unsure waters, trusting the tide to take them through. This is a single for an upcoming EP titled Voyages and a headline show in London to accompany.”
With an upcoming show at London’s The Lexington on September 13th, this immersive offering is one not to be missed live. Having already played the likes of Rescue Rooms, Rough Trade, Splendour, Dot To Dot, and more, catching ‘St. Brendan’ and previous single ‘Like A War’ in this setting would be a truly transportive experience. As anticipation builds for Voyages, Re Teu continues to establish himself as one of the UK’s most compelling independent voices, blending introspective songwriting with cinematic soundscapes that linger beyond first listen.
