Alec Riley spends most of his time fronting Initiate, a hardcore band that doesn’t do subtlety. Light Once Lost is his other side: the project where he slows down, lets his guard drop, and figures things out as he goes.
His new EP, What Doesn’t Steal You, is out now, six songs written and largely played by Riley himself, recorded with Christopher Dwyer and Clayton Stevens in LA.
“The entirety of the record revolves around the current point of my life,” Riley says, “being comfortable in uncertainty and fear, and being aware that I may not know myself as well as I thought I did.”
It’s a small, honest record from someone usually built for big noise, and that’s exactly why it works.
Catch Light Once Lost live at Oblivion, LA, on June 25.
