Every unforgettable song begins with a story. Some come from love, others from loss, faith or redemption. Scottish-based singer-songwriter Ferdinand Rennie explores that idea in his latest single, You Wrote Hallelujah, a moving adult contemporary pop ballad that pays tribute to the writers whose personal experiences have created some of the world’s most enduring music.

Written by Michael Andrew Storm and Meg McAndrew, and produced by Alan Vukelic alongside Rennie, the single looks beyond the melodies we know so well. Instead, it focuses on the emotions and life experiences that inspire timeless songwriting.

The track draws influence from two remarkable classics. Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah reflected his lifelong relationship with faith, while John Newton’s Amazing Grace grew from a journey of redemption and personal transformation. Rather than retelling their stories, You Wrote Hallelujah celebrates the courage it takes to turn deeply personal experiences into music that continues to inspire listeners decades later.

For Rennie, the message is especially meaningful. Music has shaped every stage of his life and career. Born in Graz, Austria, he built a successful career across Europe before settling in Scotland. Along the way, he appeared on Austrian and German television, competed in Austria’s Eurovision Song Contest selection and starred in celebrated musical productions including Les Misérables, Jesus Christ Superstar, Beauty and the Beast and Little Shop of Horrors.

His career has also taken him to prestigious stages around the world. He has performed before Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco, toured with Eurovision winner Vicky Leandros and built an international audience through both original releases and distinctive interpretations of well-known songs.

In 2022, Ferdinand reached an even wider audience after appearing on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. The exposure introduced his music to thousands of new listeners and marked another important chapter in a career defined by perseverance and passion.

Away from the stage, Ferdinand continues to use music as a platform for authenticity. As an openly LGBTQ+ artist, he has spoken openly about living with HIV since 2002. By sharing his personal journey, he hopes to encourage understanding, promote acceptance and help reduce the stigma that still surrounds the condition.

Those same values run through You Wrote Hallelujah. The single is more than a tribute to legendary songwriters. It is also a celebration of honesty, resilience and the universal power of music to connect people through shared experiences.

Now based in Dunoon on Scotland’s west coast, Ferdinand continues to release music through his independent label, Fabscots Music, while pursuing another lifelong ambition—to one day perform on the Eurovision Song Contest stage.

With warm vocals, heartfelt storytelling and an uplifting message, You Wrote Hallelujah stands as one of Ferdinand Rennie’s most personal releases to date. It reminds listeners that behind every great song is a story worth telling.

You Wrote Hallelujah is available now on all major streaming platforms and is also available to download from leading digital music stores worldwide.
