Leo Sawikin has always worked best when intimacy is given room to feel larger than itself. And
on ‘Burning Love’, the Manhattan-born singer-songwriter takes a deeply personal emotion and
frames it against something almost celestial, allowing love, uncertainty and wonder to blur into
one another.
As the latest preview of his forthcoming self-titled album, due in 2027, the single feels both
grounded and expansive. His melodic instincts remain central, but the imagery reaches far
beyond the everyday, drawing on moonlight, constellations, fallen angels and distant oceans to
give the song a sense of scale.
At the centre of it all is the repeated question of whether this feeling is uniquely understood or
simply part of something much bigger. And that uncertainty gives ‘Burning Love’ its emotional
pull.
There’s also a classic pop sensibility running through the track, but it is softened by an indie-
rock restraint that keeps things from becoming overly grand. That balance has long been one of
his strengths, and ‘Burning Love’ continues it with confidence.
Coming after the recent ‘The Edge of Everything’ EP and earlier successes such as ‘Till You’re
Somebody Else’, the single also suggests that Leo Sawikin’s next album may push further into
this more widescreen emotional territory.
