Paris-based duo LUX the band introduces their Virtual 45, ‘Heed (America’s got a gun)’, put together by New York singer-songwriter Angela Randall and Parisian guitarist-composer Sylvain Laforge. Drawing on nostalgic rock, folk, and pop, and touching on modern political themes and concerns, the single is built on a strong foundation of acoustic guitar, propulsive percussion, and biting songwriting.
“‘Heed (America’s got a gun)’ started with the music. Before the lyrics, we called it the “Stephen Stills-esque” because of the tuning, which was very CSNY. The melody seemed to need a 4-syllable word to start, and once we had “America”, the rest of the song wrote itself. We’re not particularly known for protest songs, but for us, it was a difficult subject to avoid, given the relentless and grave absurdity of the times. The song references traditional American folk songs and the ideals we were raised with that seem to have been so easily brushed aside.”
