Spanish alternative rock artist V.E.N!, the solo project of songwriter Edu Campoy, releases his six track EP Waking Up In The Night on October 9, 2026. Blending melodic powerpop, indie rock and atmospheric guitar arrangements, the record explores isolation, personal reflection and the search for meaningful connection.
At the centre of the release is focus track “Connection,” a guitar driven song that examines the distance people can feel from the world around them. Through themes of loneliness, guilt and lost places, Campoy explores how moments of silence and uncertainty can become opportunities to reconnect with ourselves, other people and the natural world.
Musically, “Connection” brings together energetic guitars, a strong melodic chorus and atmospheric textures. Its organic production allows the song’s more reflective elements to sit alongside the immediacy of classic powerpop, creating a contrast between its uplifting musical character and introspective lyrics.
“Connection is a melodic powerpop song with energetic guitars, a strong chorus and an emotional, atmospheric side. It combines the immediacy of powerpop with a more spiritual and introspective dimension, something that is central to V.E.N!’s music,” explains Campoy.
That balance between energy and introspection is an important part of Waking Up In The Night. Across its six tracks, Campoy draws on the melodic foundations of alternative rock while exploring more atmospheric arrangements, layered vocals and changes in musical dynamics.
Opening with “Break The Compass,” the EP moves through “Crossing The Last Valley,” “The Scared Animal” and “The Home Of The New Man” before arriving at “Connection” and closing with “Evolution.” Together, the songs form the latest chapter in Campoy’s ongoing independent project, where musical experimentation and personal expression remain closely connected.
V.E.N!, short for Virtual Emotions Network, was conceived as a creative space for exploring the relationship between emotional experience, sound and visual art. Campoy has developed the project through years of independent songwriting and studio production, building a musical identity around melodic guitars, atmospheric passages and emotionally direct songwriting.
Visual presentation also plays an important role in the project. Drawing on pop art, collage and graphic composition, Campoy approaches each release as more than a collection of recordings, developing imagery that complements the music’s emotional themes.
His distinctive approach has attracted attention from independent music publications internationally. UK outlet Indie Dock Music Blog described the project as “Fierce and tender, urgent and melancholic,” while US publication Illustrate Magazine praised its music as “Melodically bold, lyrically vibrant, socially aware.”
Further recognition has come from Loop Solitaire, Dulaxi and TJPL News Magazine, with reviewers highlighting the project’s individual identity, organic production and relationship between its music and visual presentation.
Rather than following a conventional band format, Campoy continues to develop V.E.N! as a long term solo project, releasing music through a continuing series of EPs that reflect his changing creative interests.
With Waking Up In The Night, that exploration turns towards the ways people respond to loneliness and uncertainty. Through the emotional centre of “Connection,” Campoy suggests that finding a way forward does not always begin with the outside world. Sometimes, it starts with learning to listen to ourselves.
