Jonny Corralitos releases new single Stoner Girl

Following his Velvet Underground cover, Jonny Corralitos’ reggae-pop outing ‘Stoner Girl’ shines in the bright light of psychedelia, with flourishing bass and warm organ lines. The single drifts neatly with dub energy that takes ‘Stoner Girl’ off its hinges, with trailing echoes creating chaos that reins heavy over the single’s closing section. This chaos, these unhinged moments, turn a sophomore single into something truly industrious.

Discussing the release, Jonny says:

“This song is based on a true story from years ago: A friend wrote the lyrics about his girlfriend at the time. I can remember her as if it were yesterday. She was magnetic! He loved her so much, yet struggled to make a real connection. She always seemed to float above the day-to-day realities of life, riding the wave of being young and beautiful, while everyone showered her with attention.  He slowly became depressed, mostly about her excessive bong use and lack of accountability…nevertheless, he was smitten and would turn to mush every time she was around. Unfortunately, she left him. He was sad, but finally realized it wasn’t a good fit. The truth was, Her Royal Highness was making him LOW. The music I created for the lyrical themes blends reggae, pop sensibilities, sweet background vocals, and psychedelic sounds. I brought in my talented musician friends for drums, percussion, bass, BGVs, and keyboards. I could not decide on electric guitars or acoustic guitars driving the music; they both seem to fit, so I ended up making two versions.”
