Robin Torbitt shines light on his stunning album, Truth

Rooted in 1970s folk writing tradition, yet free-wheeling indie avant-garde, Truth is the stunning studio album from Robin Torbitt, and is a glowing, ambitious sophomore LP. Already supported via BBC Radio Three and raising £1,000 for War Child’s Hot Vox partnership, Robin is making waves with audiences and industry alike.

The album is at times soaring and solemn, with high peaks and gentle lows, and a mix of fragility and raucousness which ebbs and flows over 13 tracks.

Discussing the album, Robin explains:

“‘Truth’ is my best collection of songs so far, completed in the spirit of independent art – everything you hear was recorded between 2 bedrooms, a hallway and a conservatory in rural Suffolk. In a world of AI outsourcing, I am proud to have written, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered it myself, with help from some kind friends along the way. The album explores the theme of truth through my personal experience, society, nature and our relationship with technology. Following on from more intimate and folky work, I found myself inspired by artists such as Jeff Buckley and John Martyn, who would cover much stylistic ground within a record; ’Truth’ also journeys wide open spaces, with it’s atmospheric & grungy (Unsustainable), driving rock (Can I Play), latin-tinged soft rock (Truth), intimate folk (How I See You), and impressionistic (In This Moment). I hope it speaks to the right people.”

Having performed at The John Peel Center, Hyde Park Book Club, and a wealth of festivals including First Light, Aldeburgh Festival, and Bury Folk Fest, Robin is squirreling away on his third studio outing – but for now, stream Truth, below:
