Arkansas indie-pop artist Trevor Phelps returns, showing a glimpse of his forthcoming album Small Town, via glorious new single Old Friend.
Old Friend is warm, wistful and well-balanced, shaped by his younger self, with trademark guitar work and earworm melodies. “‘Old Friend’ is the second single from my upcoming album, Small Town,” Phelps explains. “I wrote it from a perspective I don’t hear very often. Instead of writing a letter to my younger self, I imagined my younger self writing a letter to me.”
“As we get older, we spend a lot of time reflecting on who we used to be, but I wanted to explore what it would feel like if that younger version of me could see where I ended up,” he continues. “The song is filled with the expectations, dreams, and questions I had growing up, while acknowledging how much life changes the further you get from those moments.”
Following on from Home Now, Old Friend is another feather in Trevor Phelps’ bow, as being one of the leading lights in the indie resurgence taking shape in the UK, as well as across the Atlantic, where Trevor calls home.
