An evening of rock, wine and giving in the Shenandoah Valley, benefiting a nonprofit that brings free live music to patients
On Saturday, September 19, Guitarist and Vocalist David Victor, formerly of BOSTON, will return to Scott Harvey Wines for the second annual “Music Is the Medicine,” a benefit concert and fundraiser for Harmony & Healing. The evening pairs a three-set outdoor concert with dinner, wine, a live auction and a Fund-A-Need appeal, all supporting the nonprofit Victor founded to bring free professional live music to patients in care facilities across Northern California and beyond.
VIP tickets sold out in August. General admission remains at $125, which includes dinner and the full concert, and seating is limited.
The Show
Victor fronts Tha Therapy Dawgs, the trio he built as Harmony & Healing’s house band, joined by Bay Area Bassist Russell Vasquez and Drummer Michael Frowein, formerly of LYNCH MOB. The set list runs from BOSTON and Journey through Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and other crowd favorites, delivered across three 45-minute sets under the Shenandoah Valley sky.
Between sets, guests bid on an autographed guitar, a private wine blending experience, a four-hour kayak tour with picnic and other donated packages. A Fund-A-Need appeal invites guests to sponsor patient visits outright.
Why It Exists
Victor joined BOSTON in 2010 and toured with the band in 2012, 2013, and 2014, performing arena anthems live alongside some of rock’s biggest names, including a Boston Strong benefit concert at TD Garden with Aerosmith. He also recorded with the band for its 2013 album Life, Love & Hope, including the single “Heaven on Earth.”
A visit to a children’s hospital during those touring years changed his direction. “I watched what live music did in a room full of kids who were having the worst year of their lives,” said Victor, founder of Harmony & Healing. “It reached people when nothing else was reaching them. I came home knowing I had to build something around that.”
He founded Harmony & Healing in San Ramon in 2019. What began as one musician at one bedside is now a roster of 18 professional musicians performing for groups of patients in day rooms, activity rooms, and common spaces on a recurring schedule. Over the past twelve months the organization delivered 71 visits at 15 facilities, reaching more than 1,400 patients, from children at George Mark Children’s House to veterans at the Martinez VA Medical Center to seniors in memory care.
One Martinez VA patient put it plainly on camera: “This is the only thing I look forward to all month.”
“That is the whole return on this evening,” said Victor. “Everybody has a great night, and somebody who never gets a great night gets one too.”
