Alex O’Shaughnessy is a songwriter and producer from Lucan, Co. Dublin in Ireland.
Recently she co-wrote ‘Water’ by James Arthur and ‘Number One Boy,’ which features on mxmtoon’s album Liminal Space.
Alex first met her long-time collaborator and Irish artist Luz on Instagram in 2016 when they were just 14 years old.
They started writing songs together in their bedrooms at night after college for fun, one of which was titled ‘I’m lonely’ that was released by Luz in March 2020.
Completely unexpectedly, the song accumulated over a million streams in its first few weeks on Spotify alone.
This partnership launched Alex into a songwriting career – one she didn’t even know existed at the time.
She made the move to London a year later, beginning to develop her skills as a writer.
During this period she wrote songs for both established artists (James Arthur, Zoe Wees, mxmtoon) & emerging artists (Haley Joelle and Bellah Mae).
Her interest naturally progressed to the world of music production, which she started integrating into her skillset.
After three short years, she caught the attention of respected & established A&R Amanda Hill, who had previously served a seven year tenure as Senior Vice President of A&R at Sony Music publishing, having signed the likes of Miley Cyrus, Ryan Tedder and Johnny McDaid.
Amanda Hill and Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic), who has penned hits for Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, BTS and Tate McRae) subsequently signed Alex to Runner in 2024 alongside a growing roster of now 22 chart topping writers, artists and producers (Rami Yacoub, Tyler Spry, Alexander23).
Alex’s most recent co-write is a song called ‘Ant Farm’ by Bebe Stockwell featuring Wesley Schultz (The Lumineers).
She is currently working on co-producing and writing Luz’s anticipated debut EP, due to release later this year.
