Asteroid Lily is a London based electro-pop duo, consisting of Swedish singer-songwriter Jo and Greek music producer/synth player Spiros Maus.
From musical theatre to pop and from classical music to heavy metal, their different musical backgrounds fuse together to create an eclectic mix of sounds.
The band have gigged extensively across the UK, performing in London, Brighton, Oxford, Bristol, Reading, Sheffield and Wrexham.
They recently signed a record deal with Paper Garden Records.
The duo released two tracks this year ‘You & I’ and ‘Where the birds fly.’
‘You & I’ instantly grabs our attention with powerful beats before switching over to vibrant synth melodies thanks to Spiros and outstanding vocals from Swedish singer Jo aka Josefine Airaxin.
‘Where the birds fly’ has somewhat of a heavier tone to it in regards to the melody, whilst still retaining the trademark synth sound we can expect from Asteroid Lily.
Jo once again delivers a stirring vocal performance as we are presented with this upbeat and catchy track.
Asteroid Lily took time out of their busy schedule to answer a few questions for us:
1) When did your musical journey begin?
We met around three years ago, we worked on some other projects and since we had a good collaboration, we decided to take this further and actually form a band. But our individual musical journeys became long ago as we both were interested and around music from a very young age.
2) How did you get involved with Rising Voices?
(Spiros) I Gemma and her mum Silvia in the studio, as I am a music producer and I have worked on all her tracks so far.
When they told me about the fundraiser, we definitely wanted to contribute to that good cause, but also help them and support them in their personal endeavour, as it was the first event that they put on by themselves.
3) Are there any releases or events in the pipeline?
Yes, we got an album coming out on 31st July, it’s called ‘Synth & Sparkle.’
4) What are you currently up to when not recording in the studio or performing?
When we’re not doing music, we’re doing life! We also have jobs, both of us, so that definitely takes up a lot of our time and other than that, socialising and stuff.
But music is always there, even if it’s just ideas going through our heads.
