What does living in France look like to the people who live there? Minnegasco is asking residents to answer that question with their single, Livin In France. Minnegasco’s single, made up of Jon Forrest Little and Dru Astark, features vocals from indie-rock veteran James Mercer of The Shins and Broken Bells and comes with an exciting video campaign.
The video campaign invites residents of France to submit their own clips from day-to-day life, which will be compiled into the band’s music video. Entrants are asked to post a silent YouTube Short (15 to 30 seconds) using #minnegasco and #livininfrancecontest, then share the link in the video comments and the official entry form. Eight finalists will have clips included in the finished montage and receive Minnegasco apparel. The selected winner will receive a co-director credit and choose between a weekend in Évian-les-Bains and 10 ounces of physical silver bullion.
Surrounding this exciting competition is the glowing single, which was recorded at Mercer’s Portland studio, pairing his recognizable vocals with synths, keys, and measured instrumentation. The band’s name recalls the Minneapolis Gas Company and Minnegasco; Jon Forrest Little has previously shared bills with Yo La Tengo, Meat Puppets, and The Lemonheads; Astark contributes vocals and accordion. Together, they are making the song’s sense of place a collaborative project.
This single, in collaboration with Mercer, showcases the group’s ambition, knack for songwriting, and inventive nature in a glorious release and a terrific opportunity for the people of France.
