Rodrigo Caraballo-Marin has always been a student of atmosphere. As the creative force behind Blue Capricorn, the Mexican-Argentine, Dallas-based artist has spent years refining a sound that exists somewhere between a dream and a memory. His music is cinematic yet intimate, built on lush textures and emotional landscapes that evoke longing, nostalgia, and the quiet work of self-discovery. It is a sound that feels both timeless and urgently present.
His journey to this point has been one of steady evolution. Following his 2023 EP “¡AYÚDAME!,” Caraballo-Marin has continued to establish himself as a vital presence in the Dallas music scene. He has built a reputation through collaborations with artists like Jacks Haupt, Adieu Anais, and Black Taffy, each partnership adding new colors to his ever-expanding palette. Influenced by the likes of Massive Attack, Portishead, and James Blake, he occupies a unique space where ambient sound and deeply personal songwriting intersect.
That journey reaches a new milestone with “honest,” a collaboration with Dallas-based Cuban-American artist and producer LOREN KOLE. The single is the third track from his forthcoming second EP, “when you come back, transcend me,” due October 15, 2026. Written over the course of a year and a half, “honest” evolved significantly from its earliest form, shaped by a period of personal and creative transition. For Caraballo-Marin, the collaboration with Kole became an important part of that evolution.
The story of how they met adds another layer to the song’s intimacy. “When I met LOREN a few years ago, I knew I wanted to work with her one way or another,” Caraballo-Marin recalls. “When I had started working on my new EP, it only felt natural for me to invite her into my space.” What they discovered was a shared sensibility, a common belief in the feeling that music gives us and what they hoped to communicate through their own work. That mutual understanding is audible in every second of “honest.”
For Caraballo-Marin, the song became something precious. “Throughout a year and a half, it felt like this song had lived a life because it had evolved into something so pure and precious to us,” he says. “It was one of my biggest privileges to explore that with LOREN.” With “when you come back, transcend me” on the horizon, Blue Capricorn stands poised to share his most vulnerable and ambitious work to date.
