eranine wrote ‘Bear Witness’ before they understood it

Most songwriters know what a song is about before they finish it. eranine often doesn’t.

“With some of my songs, I almost feel like I black out creatively,” the Florida artist explains. “I won’t fully realize what I’ve written or what I’ve been trying to process until I listen back months later.”

That’s how “Bear Witness” came together. The spark was the film Priscilla, watched on a flight home from Lollapalooza, but what poured out afterwards went far deeper than the movie. The song confronts trauma and loss of innocence, subjects most people struggle to talk about at all.

What’s striking is how gentle it sounds. Soft, close vocals drift over distorted guitars, synths and bells, dreamy one minute and overwhelming the next. The darkness is there, but it never tips into shock value. eranine’s aim is simpler: “I want anyone who has experienced something similar to know that they aren’t alone.”

Fully independent, eranine has already played Lollapalooza and Sick New World and toured with Slowdive. “Bear Witness” opens a bigger body of work, with a music video on the way.
