Gwen releases ‘A Cure That Will Save the Both of Us’

“And Now For Something Completely Different” is a zany comedy film by Monty Python and ‘A Cure That Will Save the Both of Us’ is an eccentric release by Gwen that hits on all those unusual notes.  Based in New York City, Gwen is an alternative/indie rock band that doesn’t play by the rules when it comes to conventional music.  Breaking the norm and pushing boundaries musically is what Gwen is all about and proves this point with the new album.

The band is comprised of Caetano Morales on lead vocals & guitar, Nic Talorico on lead guitar, Alex Beck on drums and Julian Schessel on bass and recording/production.  You also have Pat Van Dyke as mastering engineer.  ‘A Cure That Will Save the Both of Us’ incorporates an array of elements and genres making for one wild ride and mind-bending experience!

We start with “The High” that provides interesting dynamics and dreamy textures.  A unique song structure can be heard “Five Miles West” as this one really stands out.  Gwen throws a complete curve ball on “Five Miles West” with distinct screams at the end that will leave you in shock & awe.  Track three, “Keep Me Alive”, has a creative direction that flows well and is vocally & lyrically rich.  Gwen is lighting up the airwaves on “Cigarette” that is full of smokey notes and fiery lyrics.  Gwen delivers a solid performance on “Cryogenic Chamber” where the band is really coming together and feeling it overall.

Track six, “Interlude”, has a mysterious vibe and some out of the ordinary sound effects that comes across as a little trippy throughout the recording.  The vocal stylings are most certainly out there in left field on “Cross” with a song structure isn’t supposed to make sense.  The listener will hear solid material on “Athena” where this song speaks volumes and is a rock-solid set that is well-played.  Gwen is laying it all out on the table on “Love Is Torture” where an emotional touch collides with a powerful presence.

“Helmet Song Pt. I” is subdued and very interesting to say the least whereas “Helmet Song Pt. II” comes completely unglued.  I really enjoyed the drumming section and guitar playing on “Helmet Song Pt. II” as Gwen is jammin’ out like there is no tomorrow!  Gwen decides to end on a raw, emotional note with “The Low” where a very serious tone is detected.

You can enjoy two official music/lyric videos for “Cigarette”, and “Athena”, right here!

Gwen may be an acquired taste but one worth taking a sip on once you dive in.  If you’re looking for extreme originality and music that has no restrictions, then you will love ‘A Cure That Will Save the Both of Us’.
