Oxford musician John Goldrust brings two decades of hard work together in his newest LP, Like A Phoenix, his debut studio album. Following his first streaming release in 2023 and his EP Travelers In Timing, released earlier this year, Like A Phoenix gathers songs developed over the last decade at Goldrust Recording Studios.
Goldrust’s writing follows experiences of love, loss, and relationships, and the pursuit of purpose as an independent artist, having begun writing music at sixteen, moving between Oxford and Manchester, exploring a wealth of genres. The album draws on a range of analog and digital textures, with acoustic guitars meeting electronic experimentation, isolated pianos, and glowing lyricism. John’s stellar vocal performance remains constant throughout.
Discussing the album, John explains:
“The album ‘Like A Phoenix’, A.K.A ‘Songs Of Experience’, represents my quest to attain the meaning of life, while being on the path of a struggling Independent Artist seeking a record deal. Recorded and produced in the Goldrust recording studios over a 10-year period, I wrote most of the songs during that time, documenting the loves, losses, relationships, and further explorations on my troubled and rocky journey.”
Like A Phoenix draws on the past, lives in the present, and remains truly timeless in its writing.
