“As One Global Ghost” by King of Cups with guest vocalist Joey Phipps from Library of the Untold is a powerful emo-metalcore song that combines Hawthorne Heights-style melodic riffs, metalcore intensity, and a massive, driving chorus. What makes this song so phenomenal isn’t just the fact that it sounds both emotionally charged and powerful; it also has a thought provoking message about mortality, what we leave behind, and how our decisions will affect us as long as we live.
“What will they say when they examine our actions?” is at the core of the song. Rather than just focus on death, King of Cups uses the song to further examine what remains after us. Ultimately, how we made people feel and how we acted will eventually determine how we are remembered.
The collaboration with Joey Phipps is massive; King of Cups first composed the song based upon Phipps’ participation in a panel discussion and then submitted the song to Phipps. Phipps unexpectedly loved the song and immediately asked to lay down vocals to turn a fan-made creation into a true epic collaboration.
“As One Global Ghost” demonstrates perfectly how you can combine the nostalgia of emo/post-hardcore and incorporate the heavy sound of modern metalcore; it has an epic melody, massive chorus, amazing vocals and harmonies, paired with heavy melodic guitar riffs, and reflective lyrics.
The song isn’t just about how you’ll be remembered; it is a powerful anthem, which is asking us to think about what our lives will have said about us once we’re gone and we can no longer speak for ourselves. What message will you leave behind?
