Most people check their phone to see what time it is. Andreas Ringsjø looks at the sky, and it doesn’t always help.
“Companions of Time”, out today, is the Kristiansand songwriter’s first single from his second album as Lumwest, due in early 2027. Here the sun and the moon become two quiet tormentors, ticking off the days while everyone else seems to be getting on with their lives. “It’s about fear of missing out on life, and people moving on without you,” he says.
It feels like a natural next step. His debut album was called Entropy, after the scientific and artistic measure of disorder, so Andreas clearly has a thing for the universe slowly winding down. This time is a little more personal.
The song sounds a lot sunnier than its subject. He played, sang and recorded it alone in his bedroom, putting the warm swirl of 60s psych through the modern filter of Tame Impala and Temples. The song works best in that gap caught between a bright sound and an anxious lyric.
Catch it live at Vaktbua in Kristiansand on 11 October.
