July brought ‘augustine’, the first single from Matz Patrick since his 2025 EP, ‘sweet reminder’, which contained three offerings released earlier that same year. ‘boston!’, ‘kerosene’ and ‘carolina blue’, the latter being a nod to the state in which Matz was raised. Now residing in London, these songs were the world’s first introduction to the folk-come-americana songwriter.
Today, Matz Patrick offers up ‘cowboy blues’, a glowingly intimate single that spans just under four minutes. Silver-screen production meets a controlled vocal performance and lush harmonies; this indie-folk drama unwinds tangled threads of self-doubt and imposter syndrome hidden under the veil of a love-lost song.

“‘cowboy blues’ is the release of my own insecurities and doubts when it comes to making music. The lyrics allude to a relationship,” Matz explains.
“It’s just as much about my relationship to making music and finding myself as an artist. This song feels cinematic and uncertain, like it could take off at any moment but still returns to an intimate place of comfort.”
Despite these doubts, Matz has achieved much, and quickly. His expansive sound, much like the mountains west of NC, has earned support from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, with airplay on both sides of the Atlantic. He’s just surpassed 100,000 streams on Spotify, with the platform championing the artist via its editorial lists, and across the horizon sits a show at London’s 02 Academy Islington on Halloween night.
‘cowboy blues’ is another milestone passed, and this step is seismic. Exceeding his own high standards of songwriting, Matz Patrick’s performance is his best yet.
