Mile are at their best with their newest single Betty, blurring shoegaze, 90s grunge, and towering balladry, hinting at their forthcoming EP, announced today. Recorded with Alex McCrea via his home studios, as well as in Hook Studios, Oxfordshire, the single was produced by Jamie Biles who boasts credits with Miles Kane, Nick Mulvey and Gretel, to name a few.
Miler discusses the single below:
“‘Betty’ is about the last conversation I had with a friend before she died, in which she told me to think carefully about my life and what path I was on, before I ended up on a path like hers. This has very much shaped the EP, as it is quite a personal self-reflection and exploration of my experiences and how I let them shape me, and the parallels in our lives that she warned me against.”
The name Miler comes from the term for a racehorse trained to compete across a single mile. For Morgan, it represents concentration and momentum: exertion without excess, and movement without the pressure to rush.
Local recognition has followed, with support from Rapture Mag, whose work has lent influence from Wolf Alice, Fleetwood Mac, Sharon Van Etten, and Ladylike. With an EP on the horizon before Christmas of this year, titled You Best, the EP’s title track will be unveiled at the end of next month.
