Post-punk outfit Scustin have released their latest, ‘Dodgy Box Pyramid Scheme’, announced to be the first taste of an EP release next month, The Lock In. Playful and unruly from moment to moment, the punchy blast of their chaotic intensity barrels forward on jagged guitars, loud bass tones and driving drums, overlooked by a vocal that truly embodies the ‘mad pub optimism’ they were looking for.
Working with Richie Kennedy, they’re stepping forth with a producer whose credits include Interpol and The Last Dinner Party for a direct, immediate finished product that tightens up their sound whilst remaining equal parts tongue-in-cheek and explosive.
Singer Joe Hearns explains, “The song came from a moment when one of the regulars in the pub I worked in actually tried to get me to join a pyramid scheme. That, combined with our genuine belief that paying for a TV licence is a bigger scam than joining a pyramid scheme, planted the seed…We wanted it to feel fun, ridiculous and a bit unhinged, but still hit hard and make you move.”
The quartet are quickly following up on last year’s debut album Confessions Of A Pub Talker. That project was acclaimed by the music press, further bolstering the euphoria-driven gigs and festival performances that have built their fanbase.
Kicking off a UK tour and more festivals in the books, 2026 is set to be a busy year for Scustin.
