Hamburg trio Seasurfer return with ‘The Noise Is Ours’, a four-track EP that finds their “dream-punk” sound pushing further into the space between shoegaze haze and post-punk intensity. Built from expansive distortion, dense guitar textures and a strikingly restrained vocal presence, it’s a record that understands the power of contrast.
Lead single ‘Flurry Glory’ sets the tone immediately. Warm, breathy vocals drift through layers of echoed guitar and rolling drums, creating something that feels both weightless and enormous. There’s a familiar shoegaze sensibility in Seasurfer’s approach, but the heavier drone of the guitars and darker electronic edges give the track a distinctly abrasive undercurrent.
Across ‘The Noise Is Ours’, that tension remains central. Themes of loss, transience, rediscovery and love are deliberately obscured rather than spelled out, allowing the music’s shifting dynamics to carry much of the emotional weight. Soaring passages give way to darker crashes, while moments of intimacy are repeatedly swallowed by walls of sound.
With Kiora now completing the three-piece alongside Dirk Knight and Apolonia, Seasurfer appear to be entering a particularly compelling phase. Their latest EP doesn’t attempt to soften the noise; instead, it finds the beauty within it, balancing fragility and force with an assured sense of atmosphere.
