Sighmon turns Florida roots into a genre-bending ‘REPTILE’

Sighmon’s REPTILE feels like an artist finding his bearings without losing sight of where he came from. Now based in Los Angeles after starting out in Florida and developing his sound through years of DIY work, the album looks backwards as much as it moves forwards, turning that sense of place into a fluid, genre-blurring collection.

Across the record, indie, R&B, alt-pop and hip-hop sit together naturally, with collaboration at the heart of its sound. “Soldier” establishes the mood with atmospheric production and an understated sense of resolve, while “We Tried” rides a breezier groove before “Am I Right?” featuring iamdeanooo folds crisp indie melodies into a hip-hop framework. There’s little interest in staying predictable.

“Old Dog” provides a welcome change of pace, stripping things back for one of the album’s more vulnerable moments before closer “Owl” gradually builds from meditative beginnings into a layered, weightier finale. That sense of movement gives REPTILE its character.

More than a statement of arrival, REPTILE sounds like Sighmon getting comfortable with his own musical identity. It’s an album shaped by friendship, place and experimentation, but ultimately driven by the freedom to let different sounds coexist.
