Soffel’s new album Even Oceans Fall Apart is a vast, hypnotising fifteen-track that slowly develops into a conceptual kaleidoscope of orchestrally arranged electronic instrumentation. It seeks to remove the mask, showcasing a pure portrait of internal emotion without the social-facing barriers put up. This gives it moments of delicate intimacy and moments of confident intensity.
Soffel’s vocals can transform from infectious indie pop to a haunting angelic presence, mastering the complicated melodies that often make up the backdrop. Tracks swell and fall away, neon blue light peaks through into a void of darkness. Each melodic delivery is unrushed, gently steadying the moment until more percussive tones can be unleashed.
The atmosphere hums with energy and feeling, and the fact that the songs are now in album form means listeners can get even more caught up in the thrill of it all.
In the artist’s words, “This album is a conceptual exploration of deconstruction, both of a relationship and of the self. I wanted to document the precise moment when the structures we build our lives around begin to crumble. Even Oceans Fall Apart is about the tension between the public mask and private collapse.”
Adding, “It moves from the high-energy irony of social scenes to the stillness of isolation. By blending orchestral arrangements with modern electronics, I aimed to create a sonic landscape where personal loss scales up to a universal level. It is a record about the beauty of the breaking point and the clarity that comes only after everything has fallen apart.”
Originally from Ukraine, Soffel writes and produces independently. Often leaning into the sensibilities of art-pop and dark-pop, she’s developed a unique style with fantastic attention to detail.
