EP Review: STAHR blur glamour and chaos on debut EP ‘BLIP’

Australian duo STAHR make a confident first statement with their debut EP ‘BLIP’, a five-track release that leans into high-energy pop-rock while unpacking the emotional weight of moments that rarely feel as small as they later seem.

Built around the idea that life’s biggest feelings often fade into hindsight, ‘BLIP’ plays with contrast. What feels overwhelming in the moment becomes distant with time, but STAHR are less interested in minimising those experiences than in amplifying how they felt when they mattered most.

“Some moments may seem insignificant in hindsight, but when you are living through them they rarely feel minor,” the band explain. “They feel consuming.”

That tension runs throughout the EP. Opening track ‘Mother Aura’ sets the tone with distorted guitars and punchy drums, shifting quickly from detached vocal delivery into something more explosive. Elsewhere, ‘Loving Friend’ leans into a pulsing groove and layered harmonies, while ‘Isn’t It Fun’ offers a sharp take on digital interaction, repeating its refrain with deliberate irony.

There is space for contrast too. ‘Be The Light’ pulls things back into a colder, more reflective ballad, providing a pause before the EP closes with ‘Yours Tonight’, a restless and chaotic finish that ties the project’s themes together.

Across ‘BLIP’, STAHR balance glamour with self-awareness, pairing loud, polished production with lyrics that remain grounded and immediately relatable.
