Tala Yunis has released her new single ‘GOD’S FAVOURITE’, the latest insight from the rising star for her EP ALL IN TIME. The R&B-pop songstress.
The soft acoustic guitar foundations are woven together with subtle production flourishes, steady lo-fi style drums and a wave of polished vocal layers that support her commanding central presence. The sonic choices, alongside the genre sensibilities, create a lush alt-pop soundscape that feels easy to listen to. It’s got punch, but enough to be enticing over assertive, as it progresses, doubling down on the graceful presence of the protagonist.
In Tala’s words, “Most creatives who chase a bigger calling experience days where inspiration hits and they feel on top of the world, only to hit rock bottom the next day. God’s Favourite captures the journey of creatives striving for something greater, where, on the road to glory, they find themselves facing hurdles, doubts, and little belief. Yet that little belief is enough to get them up the next day and try again. I wrote God’s Favourite at a time when I felt this might never happen for me, but the little belief I had was enough for me to hold on and write God’s Favourite for all those who are on the same path as me.”
As with all of Tala’s releases, her backstory adds another layer to her musical prowess. Of Palestinian ethnicity, raised in Israel, and now based in London as an openly LGBT artist, the artist reframes the complexity of her identity from a position of honesty, storytelling, vulnerability and lived experience; it’s a perspective ingrained in self-discovery.
Earning editorial recognition, tastemaker playlist support and making standout live performances have all bolstered Yunis’ status. She’s been noted for sync placements on Love Is Blind and Ginny & Georgia.
