The Gulps, for their first single since 2023, have unveiled the ferocious new track, ‘Got Ya’. Restless in nature as guitars pick a danceable step, the bass guitar grooves with boundless energy and the vocals perform as if on stage with complete infallibility.
Wiry and charging, but fundamentally founded on a bed of infectious melodies and riffs, it’s a colourful reintroduction for the trio. To categorise, they find a fantastic middle ground between the familiar, easily addictive sounds of the sixties, the hooking vitality of a punk edge, and all the charm of a rock band experimenting.
In the band’s words, “Got Ya captures that strange, vulnerable and almost surreal moment of a couple lying in bed after a wild night out. Under the influence of drugs, unable to sleep or to connect physically, they find themselves trapped in an intimate limbo where all they can do is share chaotic thoughts, twisted truths and a kind of confused tenderness.
The track blends emotional tension with dark humour as it explores that feeling of being lost yet somehow still holding on to each other. Produced by Youth (Martin Glover), the song preserves the raw, twisted energy that defines The Gulps, combining attitude, vulnerability and a melody that lingers even when everything else seems to fall apart.”
Formed in London by Spanish musicians Javier, Juan and Francesco. Early industry backing, widespread tastemaker appraisal and major support slots were halted in 2024, but they return with a renewed loudness and sense of purpose. A slew of new festivals and gigs are planned for the rest of this year and beyond, so it’s safe to say the three-piece is back and unstoppable.
