After stepping away from the studio, Texan six-piece Left Arm Tan return with ‘Rolling Under the Stars’, the first preview of the upcoming album When Tigers Smoked.
Proudly planting the Americana flag, devoid of autotune and very much a live band feel, this organic single is loaded with characteristically Texan storytelling. Evoking tales of diner coffee and the long flat drives, tied together with softened vocals, Mariachi brass, and cinematic string lines, these painted pictures are a world away from where songwriter Daniel Hines found himself some years ago.
“After thirteen years of nonstop touring and recording with Left Arm Tan, we stepped away in 2023. I joined another band, but by 2025 my body gave out,” Daniel explains.
Following multiple surgeries and a long recovery, Daniel was unsure whether he’d be able to perform, write, or play again. Faced with a fork in the road, he chose a pathway that led to completing 57 songs in five months, exploring morality, purpose, and looking ahead. This was taken to Brian Lee and the rest of Left Arm Tan, and taken forward. There, they worked diligently alongside producer Salim Nourallah in Dallas.
“That record became When Tigers Smoked. Recording it live with producer Salim Nourallah reminded us why we started playing together in the first place. Looking back, I realized these songs weren’t really about fear, they were about resilience. More than an album, When Tigers Smoked became proof that even in life’s hardest moments, there’s still a reason to keep moving forward.”
