Hailing from Middletown, CT, Bryan Titus is redefining the modern roots scene with a sound that’s part history lesson, part toe-tapping revival. Dubbed a purveyor of “Postmodern Barn Dance,” Titus blends the ragged charm of Bluegrass and American Roots music with a contemporary wink, crafting songs that feel both timeless and refreshingly witty. His latest record captures that spirit in full, delivering a performance as intimate as it is expansive.
With his latest single ‘Building My Best Life’, Bryan Titus proves that modern Americana doesn’t have to choose between past and present. It can honor the roots while dancing forward, foot-stomping, fiddle-flying, and full of heart.
We had the chance to sit down with Bryan to learn all about the new record, what makes him tick and much more here at Music Crowns!

Hey Bryan, welcome to Music Crowns! How are you doing?
Music Crowns! Amazing, stoked to be here 🙂
You grew up immersed in Bluegrass and American Roots music. How did those early experiences shape your approach to songwriting today?
My Dad played fiddle with his bird-watching buddies in their bird-watching band … they would play at Audubon Club meetings. The band rule was that the song had to have a bird in the title or lyrics to be played so their repertoire included a lot of Bluegrass & Folk tunes. They had a killer banjo player & my godfather sang lead … they had a lot of heart. I still play some of those tunes like, The First Whippoorwill & Bluebirds. The band was active when I was really young so the tapes of his gigs have become more meaningful to me now that he has passed on. When I play those tunes I get to spend a little time with my Dad & my godfather Mike.
You describe your style as “Postmodern Barn Dance.” How would you explain that term to someone who’s hearing your music for the first time?
I love the idea of a barn dance! Getting the whole community together … I mean everybody! … & having some fun. Today is so clique-y … I wanted to create a vibe where all are welcome! Except Nazi’s they can eff right off. The Postmodern aspect has to do with adapting & modernizing those romanticised “old time” vibes to our shows today.
You recorded your newest album live, with no click track or autotune. Why was capturing the live energy of the band so important to you?
I want people listening to this album (preferably on vinyl) to feel like they are at the Postmodern Barn Dance! I hope it becomes a soundtrack to celebrate the good moments & comfort the difficult times. What we are delivering to folks on this record is a true & authentic live show – made just a little sweeter by the wonderful place & talented friends that recorded it!
You’ve toured the West Coast and opened for a range of incredible artists. Are there any standout experiences or lessons from those shows that you carry into your performances today?
There is a great video our friend Gabe Ruiz put together for us from our first tour; it’s for the song Ain’t Got … you can find it on youtube. The crystal green blue water of the Rogue River, camping among the redwoods, sharing our music & making new friends, getting words of encouragement & support from Keb Mo … I’m so grateful for so many things it’s impossible to list!
‘Building My Best Life’ was your first co-write with your wife. How did your personal experiences and shared memories shape the writing process?
Katie grew up in a really small town in Minnesota & I grew up in a small-ish town in CT. Her town literally had one stop sign. We just were listing off memories of growing up & how those memories influenced the people we grew up to be: how everything, good & bad, makes you who you are. We both had those memories of driving down the same street singing at the top of our lungs out the window of a friends’ car. We both remembered the ache of how Friday just couldn’t come fast enough. Back when people used to smoke in the high school bathroom. Or those quiet moments of living in a place that still has a lot of corn fields haha. We realized that we shared A LOT of similar if not the same experiences. Ultimately we realized that even the hard times taught us good lessons & that we are grateful for it all.
And finally, what’s next in store for you in 2026?
I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS RECORD TO BE OUT!
I will be doing a tour in July that starts at The Bitter End in NYC goes up to One Longfellow in Maine & all the way down to The Spot on Kirk in Roanoke Virginia. The tour ends with my performance at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in my home state of Connecticut. Alongside that tour I am excited to participate in a bunch of the 21 Songwriters Festivals this year … it’s gonna be so much fun!
