Ruben Dumars reveals ‘Hurt Hearts’, featuring Agent Sixx, showcasing a cinema and an eeriness in his production that builds an assertive mood for the bars on top to embody. A haze of processed, choppy instrumentation is our lead melody, beneath it a monumental bass tone and a lilting drum beat, giving the dark, brooding sensibility an old-school feel underneath.
As the vocals utilise a very contemporary style, underneath is much more classic, the two rubbing along together for something immersive and experimental, the shifting sonic sands make for an addictive listen. Sharp, grounded rap delivery provides a slick tension from start to finish.
Ruben shares, “I recorded the music before I met Agent Sixx and had CJ write different versions that I remixed and pieced together into the song you hear today. Honestly, I really like the outcome. The song came together quickly, but releasing it has been a completely different story.”
Dumars is an artist-producer based in Cincinnati, bringing psych tones and guitars to his production style. Debuting in 2023, he has created a distinctive sound that has a clear direction and sense of self, as well as a sufficient helping of musical talent.
