Australian cinematic-psychedelic artist Serena Rose steps forward with her mesmerising new single Wild One, an absorbing and beautifully crafted release that highlights her growing presence within Australia’s dream-leaning alternative scene. With a sound that merges hazy psychedelia, cinematic atmosphere and raw emotional depth, Serena continues to carve out a lane entirely of her own.
Immersive from the very first note, Wild One drifts through shimmering guitars, understated rhythms and spacious production, creating a track that feels both intimate and expansive. Rather than relying on traditional structure, the song moves instinctively, pulling listeners into a reflective and almost meditative space where mood and emotion take centre stage.
Serena’s background in composition for screen is woven naturally into her music, giving each release a vivid sense of imagery and movement. That influence is felt strongly throughout Wild One, as every layer unfolds with patience and purpose. Fans of artists such as Mazzy Star, Radiohead and John Frusciante will find plenty to connect with, while Serena’s voice and artistic identity remain unmistakably her own.
With Wild One now out in the world, we caught up with Serena Rose to learn more about her journey so far, the influences that have shaped her sound, and what comes next.
What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
My first instrument was piano when I was young, I started learning and fell in love with the emotiveness of it.
What was the first band or artist you enjoyed when you were younger?
I remember really loving Kylie Minogue actually and I still really love her music from the 90s. I think my first concert was P!nk.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I have a vague memory of a Katy Perry album cover when I was really young, I think it was her first one. “One of the Boys” I think it was called.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
I don’t really feel that way about music, I don’t think I could or would want to have written anyone else’s song.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I’m always listening to a lot of different music but I recently came across Mario Lalli & The Rubber Snake Charmers, so I have been listening to them a lot.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
The feeling of recording and producing my first single “Nocturne” was really special and almost felt like my whole life had led to that point. There’s something very special about creating and releasing your first expression, in whatever form that is. I remember feeling like I was finally able to show everyone who I was.
Which artist would you most love to share the stage with?
Slash
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
So many but it would be a dream to collaborate with John Frusciante or Slash.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
There’s so many rewarding parts, but knowing that you’ve made people feel something or held the space for people to feel something will always be special.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Trust yourself
