Joe Galuszka Releases “Requiem for Mum” – A Powerful Contemporary Classical Tribute

Bristol-based British-Polish composer Joe Galuszka has unveiled his moving new single, Requiem for Mum. The release forms the emotional centre of his forthcoming debut EP, Fractures.

Written in memory of his late mother, the composition stands as both a personal tribute and a universal reflection on love, loss, and resilience. As a result, the track carries a rare emotional honesty that immediately connects with listeners.

The Story Behind “Requiem for Mum”

Originally composed and performed at his mother’s funeral, Requiem for Mum began as an intensely personal piece.

However, over time it evolved into something much broader. Rather than remaining private, the composition now resonates with anyone who has experienced grief or remembrance.

Joe Galuszka explains:

“This piece was written at one of the most difficult moments of my life. It began as something deeply personal, but I’ve come to realise it belongs to anyone who has lost someone they love.”

This perspective gives the release a sense of sincerity and emotional depth rarely found in contemporary classical music.

Recorded with The Bristol Ensemble

The single was recorded with The Bristol Ensemble, Bristol’s only professional orchestra. Known for their work with the BBC, Aardman Animations, and major film productions, the ensemble brings sensitivity and precision to the performance.

As a result, the track blends the intimacy of chamber music with the scale and richness of full orchestral sound.

At first, the composition opens with fragile textures and quiet restraint. Then, it gradually builds through intertwining motifs. As the piece unfolds, listeners are guided from sorrow toward remembrance, connection, and moments of light.

Cinematic Production and Visual Storytelling

Requiem for Mum was mixed by Alex Garden (Tarran) and mastered by Nick Cooke, whose credits include Ramin Djawadi, Kate Rusby, and Hans Zimmer.

Therefore, the final production balances cinematic polish with raw emotional honesty.

In addition, accompanying visuals directed by filmmaker Giles Pitman further enhance the reflective and atmospheric mood of the release.

A Key Moment Within Fractures

The single is a defining part of Fractures, Joe Galuszka’s debut EP. The project combines contemporary classical and ambient influences while exploring themes of grief, healing, and personal transformation.

Released across 2025 and 2026 as a series of singles, the EP traces a wider emotional journey shaped by life experience, resilience, and self-discovery.

A New Voice in Contemporary Composition

Joe Galuszka’s path into music has been far from traditional. Coming from a working-class background, he has built a diverse career spanning orchestral composition, film scoring, and live performance.

Because of this, his work feels grounded, authentic, and emotionally direct.

With Fractures, he establishes himself as a compelling new voice in contemporary composition.
